trump on medicaid

trump on medicaid

jeb bush town hall 12.19.15 the respectability report: i am a personaladvocate for people with disabilities. my question for you is what would you do as presidentto help improve the prospects of education and careers for people with disabilities andhow would you work with the states and private enterprise to do so. thank you very much. bush: thank you and i appreciate the question.it’s something that when i was a candidate for governor i interacted with families ofpeople that had disabilities or different abilities is a better way to say it and ilearned so much. and because of that listening and learning i got to be governor at a timewhen we transformed many of the programs,

both for work as well as support for familiesand thanks to the members of the legislature we did this. conservatives, we took 31,000families that were on a waiting list to get on the medicaid waiver program for example.the biggest fear many of these families have was whether they were going to outlive theirchild who was an adult. and man, if we cant take care of those people first, i don’tknow who we are as a nation. so, we did it in florida and i’m proud of the fact itwas a conservative legislature with a conservative governor that took a program that was aboutto be taken by the federal courts and made it a model for the rest of the country. ithink the great opportunity in this country back to the idea that everyone has value, everyone can make a difference, is to assure

that happens. and one of the places whereit languishes is in work, and there is a place where the federal government can play a bigrole, in providing both funding of existing funding programs. but also getting peopleconvening, bringing people together. i shop at publix, you’re not lucky enoughto have publix, but the floridians in the room it’s a pretty good supermarket. it’sa private business, it’s well regarded. they hope more people with disabilities thanany company probably in the united states. and i think they started doing it becauseit was the right thing to do, kind of social conscious in the like. but they quickly realizedthis was really smart business because people feel better when they go as a customer andsee someone who is physically disabled or

intellectually disabled in some fashion. theybring joy to the workplace and add value. they’re not a problem, they’re not a liability, they’re an asset. so if you start with the premise that people all have god given abilities,it naturally moves and those abilities are maximized. and across the spectrum of allthese government programs you can make a much bigger difference than we are now. i appreciateyour work, and i appreciate you asking the question. the respectability report: thank you part ii (applause)

bush: you cannot insult your way to the presidency.you can’t disparage women, hispanics, disabled people. who is he (trump) kidding? this countryis far better than that. and the idea that he’s actually running for president andinsulting people is deeply discouraging to be honest with you. i think we should rejectthat out of hand. i hope you’re going to reject it by voting for me. but a guy likethat should not be the front running candidate of our great party. that is not how we win. bush: i guess i gave myself therapy there.thank you for letting me do that.
